These gadgets is a symbol of all technology, its getting smaller, and were being able to pack more things into a tighter space, this will revolutionize technology simply because we can have smaller computers because we will not have to have disc drives or TV tuner cards inside the computer itself.

Dell’s 22-Inch Monitor to reach FULL HD!

22-inch monitors have generally been stuck at a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution for years with just a few notable exceptions. Now it looks like Dell is about to change that with the introduction of a newly designed, S2209W monitor with rumored 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution. The evidence stems from that prototype pictured above as well as drivers already available on Dell’s support site. This would revolutionize the pc gaming community, bringing Full HD to the, another example about how we are still making leaps and bounds and still have a long way to go before we perfect these technologies.

Aruba Networks, Babylon provides WIFI for US Soliders in Iraq

Aruba Networks already installed the “world’s largest” WLAN network at The Ohio State University, but its latest deployment just seems strangely more, how do we say… patriotic. Tag-teaming with Babylon Telecommunications, the pair has rolled out a WiFi network that will provide internet access to over 20,000 US soldiers at Joint Base Balad in Iraq. Believe it or not, there was no existing authorized web access at the base before these two stepped in, but thanks to a contract awarded by the Army & Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES), troops at the largest US military base in the region can now e-mail loved ones with ease, test their ping times from the sandbox and join a few online poker tournaments during down time. This amazing development in technology will not only bring more joy and convenience to the soldier’s time at war, but most likely save lives with better communication. The technology revolutionizes the war front, just another step to make war more bearable.

Turing machines are basic abstract symbol-manipulating devices which, despite their simplicity, can be adapted to simulate the logic of any computer algorithm. They were described in 1936 by Alan Turing. Turing machines are not intended as a practical computing technology, but a thought experiment about the limits of mechanical computation. Thus they were not actually constructed. Studying their abstract properties yields many insights into computer science and complexity theory.

A Turing machine that is able to simulate any other Turing machine is called a Universal Turing machine (UTM, or simply a universal machine). A more mathematically-oriented definition with a similar “universal” nature was introduced by Alonzo Church, whose work on lambda calculus intertwined with Turing’s in a formal theory of computation known as the Church-Turing thesis. The thesis states that Turing machines indeed capture the informal notion of effective method in logic and mathematics, and provide a precise definition of an algorithm or ‘mechanical procedure’.

Apple was established on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, to sell the Apple I personal computer kit. They were hand-built by Wozniak and first shown to the public at the Homebrew Computer Club. [12] The Apple I was sold as a motherboard (with CPU, RAM, and basic textual-video chips)—not what is today considered a complete personal computer.[13] The Apple I went on sale in July 1976 and was market-priced at US$666.66. Encouraged by the other computers entering the market, he created his masterpiece, and took it to the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto California to show it to some of the other members. Only about 200 Apple 1 computers were made in total. Excited by their success, Woz went on to design the Apple II – one of the greatest computers of all time.

Bill Gates first product was a version of programming language BASIC for the Altair 8800.  People began to copy Gate’s programs and sell them to other people so he demanded that they pay him.  He made a license saying that if you buy a program from him it may only be used for one computer and is not to be shared.  With this, computer companies could make more money by selling more programs to each individual instead of one buying it and sharing it with everyone else.

History of Computers

ENIAC, short for Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer. ENIAC was designed and built to calculate artillery firing tables for the U.S. Army‘s Ballistic Research Laboratory. ENIAC used ten-position ring counters to store digits; each digit used 36 tubes, 10 of which were the dual triodes making up the flip-flops of the ring counter.

 

A transistor is a semiconductor device commonly used to amplify or switch electronic signals. A transistor is made of a solid piece of a semiconductor material, with at least three terminals for connection to an external circuit. The first BJTs were made from germanium (Ge) and some high power types still are. Silicon (Si) types currently predominate but certain advanced microwave and high performance versions now employ the compound semiconductor material gallium arsenide (GaAs) and the semiconductor alloy silicon germanium (SiGe). Single element semiconductor material (Ge and Si) is described as elemental. Legal papers from the Bell Labs patent show that William Shockley and Gerald Pearson had built operational versions from Lilienfeld’s patents, yet they never referenced this work in any of their later research papers or historical articles.

The integrated circuit was conceived by a radar scientist, Geoffrey W.A. Dummer (1909-2002), working for the Royal Radar Establishment of the British Ministry of Defence, and published at the Symposium on Progress in Quality Electronic Components in Washington, D.C. on May 7, 1952.[1] He gave many symposiums publicly to propagate his ideas. Dummer unsuccessfully attempted to build such a circuit in 1956. The integrated circuit was independently co-invented by Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments[2] and Robert Noyce of Fairchild Semiconductor [3] around the same time. September 12, 1958.[2] Kilby won the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics for his part of the invention of the integrated circuit.

Timex Sinclair was a joint venture between the British company Sinclair Research and Timex Corporation in an effort to gain an entry into the rapidly-growing early-1980s home computer market in the United States. The choice of partnership was natural as Timex was already the main contractor for manufacture of Sinclair’s ZX81 and ZX Spectrum computers at its Scottish plant in Dundee. It was essentially the first keyboard.

The first home computer was the Mark-8 Altair. Then along came Jon Titus. He designed the Mark 8 Minicomputer using the Intel 8008 processor and got Radio Electronics magazine to run a construction article. This was groundbreaking. Complete plans to build a working computer for under $500! Amazing! Unheard of! They were switch based computers, and they came in such flavors as 94, 93, 87, 85, and 65kb versions.

Course Questions

What are some of the things that you would like to accomplish this school year?

I would like to learn the basic skills of the basic programs on the computer. I’d be interested to gain skills in photo editing and web publishing. It would also be nice to brush up on the standard microsoft programs like powerpoint. I would love to learn how to blog like I’ve never blogged before.

What types of technology are you interested in? Why?
Types of technology I’m intersted in is mostly nano, computer and automotive technology. Nano technology is where the future is, and is very interesting to see what developments will happen with this technlology. Computers keep getting smaller, faster, and stronger. I play quite a few games on my personal computer so I’m always interested to see whats new for the computer. Car technology is headed for some new heights in future  years, it will be cool to see what happens with finding an energy source such as hydrogen, cars will keep getting more efficient, faster, more aerodynamic, and better looking.

What piece of technology could you not live without? Why?

 

 

I could not live without my computer and my television. Simply because they are my two most used forms of entertainment and without them I would find myself with nothing to do. The computer is my lifeline, weather i’m selling something, checking my email, or listening to my massive library of music, my computer is a key part to my day.

What would you like to learn about this year in this course?

I would like to learn skills in programs for photo editing, I have always been very interested, but have never learned because the programs usually confuse me and I have trouble teaching myself how to use the infinite uitilities the programs have to offer.
